Sussex Police Raises Hate Crime Awareness: How to Report and Get Support During National Hate Crime Awareness Week
Sussex Police is collaborating with local partners to boost awareness of hate crime, its impact on victims and communities, and encourage those affected to report incidents.
As part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week from 12th to 19th October, Sussex Police will host a range of activities to highlight the issue and offer support.
Hate crimes are offenses driven by hostility or prejudice based on race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other characteristics.
Throughout the week, Sussex Police will partner with community groups, schools, and local organizations to engage the public through talks, events, and educational outreach. The goal is to empower individuals to recognize hate crime and report it with confidence.
Superintendent Nick Dias, the lead for hate crime at Sussex Police, emphasized the force's commitment: "We have a zero-tolerance approach to hate crime. It is crucial that victims feel confident in reporting incidents so we can offer support and bring offenders to justice."
Details on where to meet officers and learn more during Hate Crime Awareness Week will be available on Sussex Police’s social media channels. Further resources and support are accessible through Safe Space Sussex and the police website.
If you've been a victim of hate crime, report it online or call 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
