Crimestoppers Launches National Campaign Against Drink and Drug Driving

Crimestoppers, the national charity dedicated to anonymous crime reporting, has launched a powerful new campaign to tackle the growing issue of drink and drug driving. With convictions for these offences increasing by 40% between 2014 and 2022, the initiative seeks to educate the public, encourage action, and ultimately save lives.

The Alarming Statistics

Recent Ministry of Justice figures reveal a rise in convictions for driving under the influence of drink or drugs, climbing from 41,457 in 2014 to 58,117 in 2022. This significant increase highlights the urgent need to address the reckless behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users at risk.

Key Campaign Aims

The campaign is calling on everyone to:

  • Spot the signs of someone about to drink or drug drive.

  • Understand the impact on drivers, passengers, and innocent bystanders.

  • Speak up anonymously to Crimestoppers to help prevent future tragedies.

The campaign focuses on educating the public about how alcohol and drugs affect drivers’ attentiveness, reaction times, and judgement. It also highlights the risks of misusing prescription drugs and provides information on the legal alcohol limits in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

Speak Up for Safer Roads

The briefing pack contains a number of different resources to help support the campaign.

Crimestoppers’ data suggests that reports about drink and drug driving are expected to increase by 25% by the end of 2023. By offering a completely anonymous reporting platform, the charity empowers communities to share vital information without fear of being identified.

How You Can Help

To support the campaign, Crimestoppers has created a range of social media resources, including:

  • 11 static posts

  • 2 carousels (one winter-themed, one evergreen)

  • 3 videos for social media

These resources are available to download and share, here, allowing organisations and individuals to amplify the campaign’s message. Alternatively, you can share posts directly from Crimestoppers’ social media channels on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
