BCRP Awareness Week: Our Partnership with Sussex Police: A Localised, Intelligence-Driven Approach

At the Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), we believe effective crime prevention starts with strong local partnerships. Our close collaboration with Sussex Police is built on a shared commitment to keeping Brighton’s daytime and night-time economies safe. What sets this partnership apart is our intelligence-led approach—grounded in real-time, on-the-ground insights that drive proactive interventions.

Real-Time Intelligence: Turning Information into Action

Our work is powered by the DISC platform, where businesses report incidents, share intelligence, and track offenders. But data alone isn’t enough—our dedicated team ensures every report is actioned, driving real-world results:

  • Monitoring daily—Every alert and incident is reviewed, ensuring nothing is missed.

  • Investigating and escalating—Persistent offenders are flagged, safeguarding referrals are made, and agencies are mobilised.

  • Breaking the cycle—We work with outreach teams to connect repeat offenders with support services, tackling root causes and preventing reoffending.

This intelligence-sharing system is at the heart of our crime reduction strategy, ensuring incidents are not just recorded, but actively addressed.

The Business Intelligence Meeting (BIM): The Hub for Crime Prevention

A cornerstone of our partnership work is the Business Intelligence Meeting (BIM)—a bi-weekly forum where BCRP, Sussex Police, Change Grow Live (CGL), the Business Improvement District (BID), the Integrated Intervention Team (IIT), youth teams, and other key partners come together to share intelligence and take coordinated action.

How BIM makes an impact:

  • Drives Operation Apprentice—Identifying and tracking repeat offenders, ensuring swift interventions.

  • Holds agencies accountable—Ensuring all partners take active steps in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.

  • Intelligence-led agenda—Data from BCRP members informs targeted, proactive policing and enforcement across Brighton.

  • Safeguarding in action—Recently, BIM coordinated a multi-agency response to protect a vulnerable adult who posed a risk to children and himself. Sussex Police, CGL, Housing, and the Homeless Mental Health Team worked together to ensure the individual was placed in a secure mental health facility.

BIM is more than just a meeting—it’s a catalyst for change. It enables agencies that don’t typically collaborate to align their efforts, share expertise, and create real impact in tackling business crime.

Op Marble: A Smarter, Safer Night-Time Economy

Brighton’s night-time economy presents unique challenges, which is why we meet weekly with Sussex Police to develop the Op Marble strategy—ensuring police deployments are informed by real-time BCRP intelligence.

  • Strategic police deployments—Ensuring officers are positioned in high-risk areas based on emerging crime trends.

  • Addressing key concerns—Aligning policing efforts with business needs and community safety priorities.

  • Real-time intelligence briefings—BCRP hosts weekly Friday night briefings, where businesses and security managers receive updates on key risks, helping venues stay ahead of emerging threats.

This close coordination ensures Brighton’s night-time economy remains vibrant and safe for everyone.

A Unified Approach: Collaboration That Delivers Results

Our partnership with Sussex Police extends beyond intelligence-sharing. We work together on joint operations and initiatives that directly tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and vulnerability.

  • Early intervention for young people—Through Operation Apprentice, we help identify at-risk youth before they become entrenched in crime, ensuring they receive support instead of being criminalised.

  • Enhanced security and deterrence—helping Sussex Police run high-visibility patrols in the areas that matter, ensuring known offenders are monitored and businesses feel supported.

  • Public and private sector alignment—We’ve successfully brought together agencies that wouldn’t typically collaborate, building a united front against crime.

This intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach delivers real, measurable outcomes—preventing crime before it happens, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, and ensuring Brighton remains a secure place for businesses and the community.

By continuing to refine and strengthen our collaboration, we remain committed to keeping Brighton safe, resilient, and thriving.
