BCRP Awareness Week: Success in Action

As we close out Awareness Week, we’re reflecting on the real-world impact of our work—turning intelligence into action, supporting businesses, and making Brighton safer for everyone. These recent success stories showcase how collaboration, early intervention, and proactive crime management deliver tangible results.

Bringing Offenders to Justice: Operation Apprentice Success

Over the past year, Operation Apprentice has targeted Brighton’s most prolific business crime offenders. Thanks to intelligence-sharing through DISC and close work with Sussex Police, 13 repeat offenders have been brought before the courts on 25 separate occasions, leading to:

  • 16 court results – including prison sentences, suspended sentences, criminal behaviour orders, and unpaid work hours.

  • 8 pending court dates for further prosecutions.

  • 2 active targets under investigation, progressing into 2025.

This is a major win for Brighton’s businesses, showing that consistent reporting and intelligence-sharing lead to real enforcement action.

Field Officer Expertise Leads to Key Arrest

Our BCRP field officer played a crucial role in helping Sussex Police solve a series of residential burglaries.

  • An unidentified suspect had been selling stolen goods at CEX for over a week.

  • The police burglary team reached out to BCRP, knowing our field officer’s extensive local knowledge.

  • The suspect was identified, arrested, charged, and sentenced to three years in prison.

This case proves that having boots on the ground and strong local intelligence speeds up investigations and leads to convictions.

Early Intervention: Keeping Young People Out of Crime

In December 2024, a group of four young people were regularly seen intoxicated and committing theft across the city. Instead of just criminalising them, we took a different approach:

  •  Our BCRP field officer engaged them, gathered their details, and flagged safeguarding concerns.

  • They were later spoken to by Sgt Kate Hancox (Brighton Youth Team) and Sarah Morris during an Early Intervention Day of Action.

  • They received firm but supportive guidance, helping them understand the consequences of their actions.

Since this intervention, they have not reappeared on our radar or committed further offences—a clear sign that early engagement and targeted support work.

Supporting Our Newest Members: Lululemon & Op Apprentice

New BCRP members see results fast, and Lululemon’s experience proves it.

  •  A prolific Op Apprentice subject stole £4K worth of goods in one weekend.

  • Our BCRP team helped retain and gather key evidence, ensuring a solid case for police action.

  • The suspect was arrested, charged, and bailed with strict conditions—and since then, he has not returned.

This case highlights how being part of the BCRP means instant access to expert support, crime prevention strategies, and tangible results.

Empowering the Night-Time Economy: New Vulnerability & Spiking Awareness Guides

Beyond crime reduction, we’re committed to supporting Brighton’s night-time economy. This week, we launched new resources for venues on spiking awareness and vulnerability training—ensuring businesses have the tools they need to protect customers and staff.

These stories are just a snapshot of the impact we create daily. Whether it’s securing convictions, safeguarding young people, or supporting businesses, BCRP remains at the forefront of proactive crime management in Brighton.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to our mission—by reporting incidents, attending briefings, and staying engaged, you’re making Brighton a safer place for all.

Stronger Together. Safer Brighton.
